Intellectual Property Litigation and Protection
At Dougherty, Molenda, Solfest, Hills & Bauer, our attorneys work to protect clients’ work and ideas from disclosure and improper use by others. This can be accomplished in some contexts through the use of confidentiality and nondisclosure agreements.
What is Intellectual Property?
Although sometimes misunderstood, intellectual property consists of anything of commercial value that you have made through your creativity. Intellectual property includes trademarks and trade secrets; copyrighted property such as literary, musical or artistic works; and invented or discovered property such as patents, business methods or industrial processes.
Protecting your Intellectual Property
There are various ways to protect your intellectual property. Some protection methods require filing an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or with the U.S. Copyright Office. At times, protection can be accomplished simply by using your intellectual property in commerce.
Our business and commercial attorneys work with intellectual property attorneys to assist clients as they determine 1) what type of intellectual property they have and 2) the most effect way to protect it.
